All the high-end Samsung smartphone comes with an IP68 rating. These devices can withstand dust and are resistant to water submersion up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. What is the Moisture Detection feature?

The Samsung S, A, and Note series smartphones are equipped with Moisture detection features. The purpose of this feature is to protect the device from any kind of physical damage due to shortcircuiting. As soon as moisture is detected in your USB port the device automatically stops device charging to protect your device from damage or corrosion.

Getting the moisture detection warning doesn’t mean your Samsung phone was in direct contact with water. Sometimes the error appears due to a humid atmosphere and accumulation of dirt in the charging port. So some of the reasons you get a water droplet icon on your status bar is because the charging port is wet, or accumulation of dust particles inside the USB port.

The Water drop icon won’t go away even when dry

Check for system Update

The first thing you need to do is check if your device software is up to date or not. Updating your device with the latest software updates the error goes away. to update your phone follow the steps below:

Go to Settings > Software update >> Tap on Download and Install>> Follow the on-screen instructions.

Clear USB cache

Clearing your USB Cache is the next thing you can do to get rid of the water droplet icon appearing on the screen.

Go to Settings >>> Navigate to Apps >>> Tap the Filter and Sort icon >>> Move the switch to the right to enable Show system apps >>> Tap OK >>> Scroll to USB Settings and tap Storage >>> Tap Clear cache located on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen to clear your USB cache.

Restart the Device With the Charger Plugged In

Restaring your device is another way to get rid of Moisture detection errors. Long press the power button to restart your phone. Keep your charger plugged in while you restart your device. Restarting your device may resolve the issue for a while.

Force stop Android system

Force-stopping your Android system is another way of getting rid of this error. Doing this shuts down all the active processors and apps running on your device. This is not at all recommended by the Samsung team experts. To force stop the Android system follow the steps below.

Open the Settings app >>> Scroll down and tap on Apps >>> Tap on the vertical three dots in the upper right corner >>> Tap on Show System Apps >>> Find and tap on Android System >>> Tap the Force stop option and restart your Android device.

What to do when a Moisture detection message appears on the screen?

When sensors detect some moisture in the USB port the water drop icon appears in the status bar and you get a notification from the Android System. In some of the latest Samsung smartphones, you will also find tips to resolve the moisture detection issue. Below are a few things you must do when a Moisture detection notification appears.

  1. As soon as the “Moisture detected in USB port” message pops up you remove the cable from the phone and make sure both cable and USB port is completely dry.
  2. Wipe your device using a dry cloth from outside and shake your device 5 – 10 times in such a way that the port faces downwards. Gently shaking your device will easily release the excess moisture.
  3. Place your phone on a cloth in a well-ventilated area, or dry it with a fan.
  4. Switch off your mobile phone and clean the charging port using a dry cloth, tissue, cotton swab, or a moisture absorber like silica gel.
  5. Do not insert anything hard inside the USB port and avoid any harsh treatment which will eventually damage your charging port.
  6. If you want to charge your phone urgently then use wireless chargers.

The moisture detection feature of Samsung devices is very important and it protects your device from accidental damage, Corrosion and Short-circuiting. If the error appears repeatedly despite of USB port being dry then you may follow some additional steps. You can get rid of this error by cleaning your charging port using a clean dry cloth.
