How to Soft Reset HP printer

A soft reset is a quick solution to overcome minor glitches and temporary errors like out-of-paper errors, connectivity errors, etc. A soft reset is easy and will not affect the printer settings. Below are the steps on How to reset the HP printer.

Step 1 – Turn off the printer and remove the power cable from the printer. Remove all the peripherals and cables attached to the printer.

Factory Reset via the HP Smart App

After Downloading and installing the app on your device follow the steps below:

Step 1- Connect the printer and computer to the same Wifi network and add the printer to your HP smart App.

Step 2 – Open the HP smart app on your device and Tap the printer icon on the top to open the printer Settings.

Step 3 – Scroll down to find the advanced option and click on the Advanced Settings option from the list. This will redirect you to the printer EWS page.

Step 4 – From the EWS page open the menu bar and go to the System or Settings tab.

Step 5 – Now you will be redirected to the page where you need to enter the printer PIN or Password. You can easily find the pin on the label which is located inside the cartridge access area or printer door.

Note for HP LaserJet printers,

Enter admin for the username (HP LaserJets only), enter the PIN from the printer label, and then click Submit.

Step 6 – Now scroll down to find the restore defaults option. Here you need to click Restore Factory Defaults > Yes.

Step 7 – After about 20 seconds, your printer automatically restarts.

Factory reset via the Embedded Web Server

Restore factory defaults from the printer Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Step 1- Click on the button below to open the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Step 2- Enter the login credentials. You can find the Printer PIN, user name, and other details on the printer label.

Step 3 – Restore your printer to factory defaults.

For most HP printers, click Restore Factory Defaults or Factory under Restore Defaults. Click Restore Factory Defaults > Yes.

For HP LaserJet printers, click Service, and then click Restore defaults > OK.

After about 20 seconds, your printer automatically restarts.

Factory Reset via the Printer Control Panel

If you don’t have the HP smart app installed on your device then simply reset your printer through the control panel. Resetting your printer through the control panel has several ways and may differ for every printer model. For HP Touchscreen Printers

Step 1 – Swipe down and open the printer dashboard. Open the printer control panel and Touch the Setup  or Menu  icon.

Step 2- Touch Tools, or Printer Maintenance > Restore.

Step 3 – Touch Restore Factory Defaults > Yes or Continue.A Restoring printer factory defaults message displays.

After about 20 seconds, your printer automatically restarts.

For HP DeskJet and ENVY printers

Disconnect the power cord and Open the cartridge access door >>> On the control panel, press and hold the Power  and Wireless  buttons for at least 3 seconds >>> After about 20 seconds, close the cartridge access door.

For HP LaserJet M109-M122 printers

Disconnect the printer power cord >>> On the control panel, press and hold the Resume/Cancel button  >>> Without releasing the button, reconnect the power cord >>>Release the button when the Power light  turns on.After about 20 seconds, your printer automatically restarts.

For HP LaserJet MFP M139-M142 printers

Disconnect the printer power cord >>> On the control panel, press and hold the Up  and Cancel  buttons >>> Without releasing the buttons, reconnect the power cord >>> Release the buttons when an nv message displays on the control panel.After about 20 seconds, your printer automatically restarts.

For HP  LaserJet M207-M212 printers

Disconnect the printer power cord >>> On the control panel, press and hold the Resume button  >>> Without releasing the button, reconnect the power cord >>> Release the button when the Information light  turns on.After about 20 seconds, your printer automatically restarts.

For HP LaserJet MFP M232-M237 printers

Step 1- Disconnect the printer power cord.

Step 2 – Depending on your printer, use the control panel buttons to start the factory restore.

Printers with a flatbed scanner only (sdn, sdw, sdne, and sdwe models): Reconnect the power cord, and then press and hold the Resume button  until the Status light  blinks.

Printers with a document feeder (d, dw, dwe models): Press and hold the Resume button , and then reconnect the power cord while pressing the button.

Step 3 – Release the Resume button when the Attention  or Cancel  light turns on and an nv message displays on the control panel.After about 20 seconds, your printer automatically restarts.

For HP HP LaserJet Pro CP1025, CP1025nw printers

Turn the printer off>>> Unplug the power cord >>>Wait for 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord >>> Turn the printer on, and then press and hold the Resume button  for 10-20 seconds.The Attention light  lights >>> Release the Resume button  >>> The Attention  and Ready lights cycle while the printer restores to factory defaults.

For HP Ink Tank 500, 510, Plus 550 printers

On the control panel, press and hold the Power button  >>> Without releasing the Power button >>> Press and hold the Black Copy  and Resume  buttons until a spinning wheel animation  displays on the control panel.

After about 20 seconds, your printer automatically restarts.

For HP Smart Tank 210, 520, 540, 580, 5100 printers

Step 1 – Turn off the printer.

Step 2 – Depending on your printer, use the control panel buttons to start the factory restore.

Smart Tank 210 printers: Press and hold the Resume  and Information buttons at the same time.

Smart Tank 520, 540, 580, 5100 printers: Press and hold the Resume  and Black Copy  buttons at the same time.

Step 3 – Without releasing the buttons, turn on the printer. Wait at least 5 seconds, and then release the buttons.

After about 20 seconds, your printer automatically restarts.

For HP Smart Tank 670, 720, 750, 6000, 7000, 7300 printers

On the printer control panel, press and hold the Information button  for 5 seconds until all control panel buttons turn on>>> Open ink access door >>> Press and hold the Information  and Cancel  buttons for 3 seconds >>> After about 20 seconds, close the ink access door.
